Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has approved the conversion of the Specialist Hospital Yola into the Adamawa State University Teaching Hospital.
The approval followed a request by Adamawa State University, Mubi, aimed at providing medical students with a training facility within the state instead of relying on institutions outside Adamawa.
The announcement was made by the Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Awwal Tukur, during the inauguration of the conversion committee at the Government House in Yola.
Officials of the university and the hospital described the development as a major step toward improving medical education and healthcare services in the state.
However, the move has also sparked conversations among residents over the current condition of healthcare facilities, shortage of equipment, and welfare of medical personnel in the state.
