Police Clear Senator Ishaku Abbo of Rape Allegation

The Nigeria Police Force has cleared former Senator Ishaku Elisha Abbo of rape allegations involving a minor after a thorough investigation.

The allegation was submitted to the Inspector-General of Police in September 2025, claiming that the incident occurred in June 2025 at a residence in Abuja. Following the petition, the Inspector-General ordered a detailed investigation due to the seriousness of the claim.

The investigation involved specialised units of the police, including the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Gender Unit, the National Cybercrime Centre, the Intelligence Tactical Unit, and the Police Medical Unit. Statements were taken from all relevant parties, medical reports were reviewed, and the alleged location was examined.

According to the police findings, there was no credible evidence to support the allegation. The police noted that the delay in reporting the incident affected the availability of evidence. Medical reports did not indicate sexual assault, and witness statements did not confirm that the alleged act took place.
Based on the outcome of the investigation, the police stated that the essential elements required to establish rape were not proven, and Senator Ishaku Abbo was therefore cleared of the allegation.
