Fresh tension broke out in Michika, Adamawa State, on Monday morning following reports that military personnel allegedly assaulted an elderly woman who had gone to buy a small quantity of urea fertilizer from a local seller.
Witnesses said the incident happened near the Michika Local Government Secretariat, where a young trader, identified as Jerry, has been retailing fertilizer in smaller measures to support local farmers.
According to accounts from bystanders, soldiers stormed the spot, rough-handled the elderly woman, and subsequently took Jerry into custody.
As of the time of this report, the motive behind the soldiers’ actions has not been made public. The development has triggered outrage among residents, who are urging authorities to investigate the matter and ensure justice is served.
