Human rights activist and lawyer, Dele Farotimi, has thrown his weight behind former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, over his recent call for a single-term presidency in Nigeria.
Farotimi described the proposal as a bold and necessary reform that could help reduce the desperation for power, promote accountability, and allow leaders to focus on governance rather than re-election.
“A single-term presidency will force leaders to do the work without thinking of the next election,” Farotimi stated.
Peter Obi recently suggested that limiting presidents to a single term would strengthen Nigeria’s democratic institutions and improve leadership performance. His statement has continued to spark debates among political analysts and citizens alike.
