27 Candidates Compete for Permanent Secretary Positions in Adamawa State

A total of 27 candidates are currently in the race to become Permanent Secretaries in Adamawa State, following a qualifying examination organized by the Office of the Head of Civil Service.

The examination, which is an important step in selecting top administrative leaders in the state, took place on August 12, 2025, at the Nyako Complex in the State Secretariat. An oral interview stage is also scheduled for August 13.

This is the first time the exam is being held since 2023. The process is being supervised by the current Head of Civil Service, Pharmacist Shehu Isa Ardo, who is determined to ensure that only the most qualified candidates are selected.

The 27 candidates who sat for the examination represent eight Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Adamawa: Madagali, Mubi North, Gombi, Girei, Yola North, Fufore, Demsa, and Shelleng. However, there were no candidates from Toungo and Mubi South LGAs.

The written test was administered by a panel led by Pharm. Ardo and the Permanent Secretary of Administration, Mr. Oliver Gani. Officials from the Department of State Services (DSS) were also present to observe the process and ensure transparency.

The final list of successful candidates will be submitted to Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for approval and possible appointment.

During his address to the candidates, Pharm. Ardo urged them to maintain professionalism and discipline. He noted that while multiple candidates may come from the same LGA, only the best would be considered for appointment.

Also speaking at the event, Mr. Dada Joseph O. from the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON), who monitored the examination, encouraged candidates to focus on key areas such as management, civil service rules, and administrative goals.

All candidates were wished success as they move on to the next stage of the selection process.
