Adamawa State has recorded 8,850 new HIV cases between 2022 and 2025, according to the Adamawa State Agency for the Control of AIDS (ADSACA). This rise in infections highlights the need for stronger public awareness, prevention, and treatment efforts across the state.
Abdullahi Adamu, Director of Research, Monitoring, and Evaluation at ADSACA, revealed the breakdown of new infections:
2022: Over 2,700 cases
2023: More than 2,500 cases
2024: 2,227 cases
January–June 2025: 1,423 cases
Despite free HIV testing services and over 40,000 testing kits distributed by the state government, new infections continue to rise, showing that more needs to be done to fight the spread of the virus (Premium Times).
Certain local government areas (LGAs) are more affected than others. Michika and Mubi have been identified as areas with particularly high infection rates, emphasizing the need for targeted interventions in these regions (AllAfrica).
