The Yola High Court in Adamawa State has reserved ruling on the bail application filed by the Chairman of Concerned Citizens Adamawa State, Alhaji Husseini Bello Gambo Nakura.
The court, presided over by Justice Christopher Dominic Mapeo, is also expected to deliver judgment on a preliminary objection raised by the Registrar of Chief Magistrate Court II and the Commissioner of Police, Adamawa State, against the bail request.
At Wednesday’s sitting, counsels to both parties adopted their written addresses after presenting oral arguments. Justice Mapeo, thereafter, announced that ruling had been reserved, with the date to be communicated to all parties in due course.
Gambo Nakura has been in detention since September 10, 2025, following an order of the Chief Magistrate Court II. He approached the High Court seeking bail and urging the court to quash the lower court’s proceedings.
Counsel to the applicant, E.O. Odo, argued that the bail condition earlier granted by the Magistrate Court was “impossible” to meet. According to him, the lower court had insisted on a surety who is a single individual with specific political ties, a requirement he described as a deliberate denial of bail.
Odo urged the High Court to review the conditions, set aside the earlier order, and grant his client bail, stressing that Nakura had already spent 14 days in custody.
However, counsel to the respondents, J.A. Waya (DCL), urged the court to dismiss the application, insisting that the applicant had not provided evidence to prove claims about political party affiliations. Waya also dismissed Nakura’s health concerns, including alleged spinal cord injury and malaria, as attempts to mislead the court.
The ruling date is expected to be announced soon.
