Outrage as Mosque in Turkey Mistakenly Renamed After Victor Osimhen

Istanbul, August 12, 2025 — A mosque in Konya, Turkey, has stirred controversy after it was mistakenly renamed “Victor Osimhen Mosque” on Google Maps. The mosque, officially known as Bulut Mosque, has served the local Muslim community since 2008.

Worshippers condemned the name change, calling it disrespectful and demanding an immediate correction.

“This is a place of worship, not a football fan zone. Victor Osimhen is not part of our community,” one worshipper said.

Local leaders described the incident as “an insult to Muslims,” and urged Google to strengthen its controls to prevent such edits in the future.

There’s no evidence linking Nigerian footballer Victor Osimhen to the name change. Sources say the error likely came from an unauthorized user edit.

Osimhen, who recently joined Turkish club Galatasaray, has not commented on the incident. He is expected to return to action in the club’s upcoming league match.
